  Organizing With Kids Top Tips!

Summer is here and it's a great time to get organized with kids while they are
home.  Be sure to unpack their backpacks.  The sooner you do this after school is
out the better.  Throw away all the papers no longer needed and find those
workbooks the teachers send home so when the kids say "I'm bored!", you can
pull them out! Now is a great time to plan ahead for the busy days of school ahead
with the following ideas...

Let’s start when the kids get home from school.  (Tip #1) Designate a “drop
zone” for their backpacks and lunch boxes.   This could be a large basket that
tucks away under a bench or a large hook on the wall installed where the child
can reach.  Then comes snack time at my home!   (Tip #2)  Place the glasses cups
and allowed snacks at a place the child can reach without climbing on the
countertops.  (Tip #3)   Place labels with each family members name along the
edge of the countertop for in-use cup storage.   This is great for the “I’m
thirsty!” after running outside to play without dirtying  another cup!  (Tip #4)
Designate a drawer in the kitchen for each child’s treasures.  This drawer is great
for items found throughout the day!  Use this drawer for storage of  treasure box
rewards,  big kid’s meals toys, birthday party favors and the like.   (Tip #5)  Place
a fun white board or chalk board in the kitchen for friendly reminders instead of
nagging.   Ours is used most often for “T is for Trash Day” chore reminders. (Tip
#6) Be consistent on the family daily schedule and expectations even if you have
to write it down.   Be clear on bedtimes, wake-up times, bath-nights, weekly
chores and morning routines. This will help your whole family feel less hectic in
getting out the door each morning with love and not stress.  Let’s organize our
days so we can focus on cherishing these special times with our children.
